Bringing Baxters products to life through mixed media animation
Baxters is a long-established Scottish food brand founded on the mission to “be different, be better”; by merging heritage and tradition with contemporary trends and flavours. The brief
Our first collaboration on this campaign was in summer 2024, when we were tasked with creating a suite of seasonal video assets for three of their top-performing pickled products: silverskin onions, beetroot, and kraut. This later expanded into a second brief in 2025, focused on building brand affinity and spotlighting their onion and beetroot products once again, this time with a more evergreen approach.
The brief was clear: showcase all products across a series of scenes based on scripted concepts, ensuring every asset was cohesive and campaign-ready.
With the creative direction set, we were brought in to advise on the best creative routes.
The challenges
The creative naturally lent itself to stop motion: the cans and jars needed to “talk”, making this technique the perfect fit. Stop motion can be quite time-consuming, detail-heavy, and requires serious patience and planning. Given the shape of the products, achieving the right movement and expression was no small task either.
The videos had to fit seamlessly into an already active campaign, which can be quite tricky: there’s little room for content that feels disjointed or out of place. Our goal was to enhance and build on the existing narrative, ensuring that each new asset felt like a natural extension of the campaign rather than a standalone effort.
On top of that, each product required its own bespoke set, meaning that creative planning was just as important as the technical execution of the shoot. From styling and lighting to camera angles and pacing, every decision had to support the overall campaign story while giving each product its own moment to shine.
Our approach
We pride ourselves on offering a bespoke approach to each agency partner we work with, adjusting our support based on what they need. In this case, Guy and Co came to us with a strong creative concept and a ready-to-go script, and we developed detailed storyboards and soundscapes, setting clear expectations ahead of the shoot.
One Space, Multiple Environments
With multiple stop-motion videos to shoot, efficiency was our top priority. We took a multi-rigging approach, combining traditional sets (colourama) with virtual production to capture every frame, seamlessly moving us from an Oktoberfest beer hall to a cosy Christmas living room and a summer garden, maximising output while maintaining creative quality.
To ensure a smooth and efficient post-production process, our editor oversaw every frame on set, carefully checking composition, continuity and pacing in real time. This proactive approach allowed us to address any issues immediately, keeping the shoot on track and making the editing process far more seamless.
Bringing the Jars to Life
To bring the pickles to life, we used jar lids lifted subtly with fishing wire to imitate speech. We also created interaction between the Baxters products and plated food using Blu Tack and blocks to adjust positions.
But of course, this was a thoroughly post-heavy project, where every detail mattered. The concept was really brought to life through meticulous frame by frame retouching, removing wires and imperfections, careful colour grading to set the mood and the addition of GFX to land the right message.
Finding the Right Voices
Voiceovers provided the final layer of storytelling, reinforcing the narrative with lively, upbeat voices for the pickles that stood in stark contrast to the meek, subdued tones of the food.
Results
We created 22 stop-motion videos packed with personality that fit seamlessly into the campaign, from festive scenes to summer spreads giving Baxters a bank of assets that work all year round.
